Volleyball Recap: Gilbert Tigers vs. Higley Knights

Gilbert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell just short of the Higley Knights by a score of 3-2. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September.

Gilbert took Higley into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking nine-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-18, 15-6.

Even though they lost, Gilbert was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Higley only served 13.

Higley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Schenk, who had four aces and three digs. That's the most aces Schenk has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Sluiter, who had 14 digs.

Gilbert's loss dropped their record down to 12-16. As for Higley, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-16-1.

Gilbert will venture away from home to square off against Highland at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Higley, they will welcome Williams Field at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
