Baseball Recap: Woods Cross Takes Down Box Elder in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Woods Cross had no trouble coming through when it counted. They never let the Box Elder Bees get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Coleman Burbidge tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Beau Blackwell and Jackson Bodily did most of the damage at the plate: Blackwell went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Bodily went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Bodily a new career-high. Thomas Pattison was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Woods Cross kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Woods Cross has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Box Elder, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 17 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season.

Woods Cross will have a chance to go back-to-back against Box Elder: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
