Basketball Recap: Newnan Comes Up Short

Newnan has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were outmatched by the Langston Hughes Panthers and fell 68-35. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Panthers are ranked 19th).

Despite the loss, Newnan saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rylee Cleveland posted 16 points and three steals. Cleveland is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Yevrah Mack, who scored seven points and eight rebounds.

Newnan's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Langston Hughes, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-4.

Newnan has already played their next game, a 54-50 victory against Lovejoy on the 17th. As for Langston Hughes, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-35 win against Banneker on the 17th.
