Basketball Game Preview: Simmons Blue Devils vs. Leland Cubs

The Simmons Blue Devils will take on the Leland Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with 14 losses in a row dating back to last season, Simmons turned things around against West Bolivar on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 75-49 win. The Blue Devils' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Leland hadn't done well against South Delta recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Leland made off with a 60-59 victory over South Delta. Considering the Cubs' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Leland's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10. As for Simmons, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-12.

Simmons strolled past Leland in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 53-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Simmons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
