Football Recap: Joplin Eagles vs. Webb City Cardinals
After losing to Webb City the last time they met, Joplin decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Joplin Eagles won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Webb City Cardinals 43-42. The win was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on three straight.
It was another big night for Toryn Jones, who rushed for 146 yards and five touchdowns. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 102.2 rushing yards per game. Davin Thomas also helped out with an impressive 128 receiving yards.
Webb City's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Jackson Lucas and Slade Hurd. Lucas rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, while Hurd rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards Hurd has posted since back in November of 2023. Isaiah Tela was another key player, rushing for 94 yards on only nine carries.
Joplin's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Webb City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, Joplin and Kickapoo will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on November 8th. Joplin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Kickapoo likes a good challenge. As for Webb City, they will welcome Belton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Webb City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 26.2 points per game this season.
