Yates has gone 5-0 against Northside recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Yates Lions face off against the Northside Panthers at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Yates' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.

On Tuesday, Yates didn't have too much trouble with Worthing as they won 85-66. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Colts are ranked 509th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Northside hadn't done well against North Forest recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Northside narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past North Forest 53-51.

Northside found their leader in sophomore Jerryus Mathews, who posted 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Colmenero, who earned 12 points and eight rebounds.

Northside's record is now 5-17. As for Yates, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Yates against Northside in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 91-48 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Yates since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
