Softball Recap: Pojoaque Valley's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Pojoaque Valley can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with a 15-11 win over the Espanola Valley Sundevils. That's more bragging rights for the Elks/Elkettes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The team relied heavily on Lilah Herrera, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Ashle Duran also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Herrera wasn't the only one making solid contact: Pojoaque Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for the Elks/Elkettes: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Pojoaque Valley's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-15. As for Espanola Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Pojoaque Valley is set to square off against their familiar foe Los Alamos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Espanola Valley will face off against rival Moriarty at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
