Softball Game Preview: Leeton Bulldogs vs. Archie Whirlwinds

The Leeton Bulldogs will face off against the Archie Whirlwinds at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

If Leeton beats Archie with 12 runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Bulldogs walked away with a 12-9 win over Tipton on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won three contests in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Archie, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Jasper on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Whirlwinds, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Kyleigh Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Mattingley, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Lizzy Thompson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Archie hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Leeton pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Archie, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
