Shaw hasn't had much luck against Lorain recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Shaw Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lorain Titans at 12:00 p.m. Lorain took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Shaw, who comes in off a win.
If Shaw beats Lorain with 50 points on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Shaw escaped with a win last Saturday against Bedford by the margin of a single free throw, 50-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.
Shaw's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Deyonn Clark, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Kamora Davis, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Shaw was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Lorain unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Columbia by a score of 49-47. The Titans were down 49-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Shaw will have to contain Samone Whitt as she made an impact in Lorain's last game. She almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Whitt has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ca'Milynne Shields, who posted seven points and four steals.
Shaw's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-7. As for Lorain, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4.
Shaw took a serious blow against Lorain in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 54-16. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Shaw was down 40-6.
