Softball Recap: Marian Catholic Comes Up Short

Marian Catholic extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-6 in the process. They came up short against the Williams Valley Vikings, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Williams Valley this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

As for Williams Valley, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won ten games by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Williams Valley's part, Olivia Hand was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Hand was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Williams Valley let Kayla Hand and Sage Smeltz run wild. Hand went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Smeltz went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Hand has posted since back in June of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cierra Brill, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Marian Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 19-3 win against Nativity BVM on the 21st. As for Williams Valley, they have also already played their next contest, a 21-0 victory against Shenandoah Valley on the 22nd.
