Football Recap: St. Paul Comes Up Short

The St. Paul Swordsmen were beaten by the Mission Viejo Diablos 58-14 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Swordsmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Diablos are ranked third).

Gabriel Castaneda threw for 140 yards and two TDs. Gavin Lannon was his top target, picking up 69 receiving yards.

Luke Fahey was a one-man wrecking crew For Mission Viejo. as he threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.5% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Those 375 passing yards gave Fahey a new career-high. Jack Junker also helped out as he racked up 117 receiving yards.

St. Paul's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Mission Viejo, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, St. Paul will head out to face off against Damien at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mission Viejo, they will host Folsom at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
