Basketball Recap: Summit Takes a Loss

Summit was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They lost to the Salida Spartans at home by a 60-46 margin. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while the Spartans are ranked 48th).

Despite the loss, Summit still got an impressive performance from Eduardo Gutierrez, who posted 26 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 56.5% of Summit's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Lucas Comcowich was another key player, putting up nine points.

Summit's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Salida, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summit will challenge Eagle Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eagle Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matchups -- so hopefully Summit likes a good challenge. Salida has already played their next game (against Ellicott), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
