Basketball Recap: Rocky Mountain Falls Short Against Ranked Eagle

On Tuesday, Rocky Mountain faced Eagle in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies fell 52-43 to the Eagle Mustangs. The Grizzlies were probably out for revenge after losing 63-62 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Rocky Mountain lost, don't look at Logan Sailors. Despite the final result, she posted 20 points and four steals. That was a full 46.5% of Rocky Mountain's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Campbell Wilson, who put up seven points and four steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eagle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Berkley Jones, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taya Nelson, who went 8 for 14 on her way to 17 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Rocky Mountain and nudges their season record down to 12-8. As for Eagle, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which somehow still isn't as good as their 16-4 record this season.

Rocky Mountain will head out on the road to take on Owyhee at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Owyhee will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Rocky Mountain surely won't give up without a fight. As for Eagle, they will welcome Ridgevue at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eagle has five straight wins, Ridgevue has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
