Baseball Game Preview: Weddington Warriors vs. Marvin Ridge Mavericks

The Weddington Warriors will face off against the Marvin Ridge Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Weddington 3.4, Marvin Ridge 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Weddington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: Cuthbertson, who was ranked first at the time (Weddington was ranked 13th). The Warriors' pitchers stepped up to hand the Cavaliers a 3-0 shutout on Saturday. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Cavaliers on their field since April 5, 2023.

Meanwhile, Marvin Ridge fell victim to Sun Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 1-0. The Mavericks' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Marvin Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Weddington, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-4.

Everything went Weddington's way against Marvin Ridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Weddington made off with a 9-3 win. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
