Softball Game Preview: Southwood Knights vs. North Miami Warriors

Southwood hasn't had much luck against North Miami recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Knights will challenge the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Southwood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They put the hurt on Northfield with a sharp 14-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Natalie Sutphin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 25 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rowan Goodpasture, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Izzy Ashba, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Southwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

North Miami not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 8th (when they won 24-1). They blew past Cowan 15-1. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Southwood's record is now 18-10. As for North Miami, their record now sits at 17-8.

Southwood suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to North Miami when the teams last played on May 9th. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
