Baseball Recap: Pearl-Cohn Firebirds vs. Stratford Spartans
Pearl-Cohn extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-17 in the process. They came up short against the Stratford Spartans, falling 10-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Firebirds haven't been shut out since back in April.
As for Stratford, they now have a winning record of 7-6. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19th (when they won 20-0).
For Stratford's part, Cal Brock made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Stratford is 3-1 when Brock posts eight or more strikeouts, but 4-5 otherwise. Brock was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesse Morse, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Davonyae Watson, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
