Volleyball Game Preview: Steele Comets vs. Springfield Blue Devils

The Steele Comets will hit the road for the first time this season to take on the Springfield Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Steele will be strutting in after a win while Springfield will be coming in after a defeat.

Steele will bounce into Friday's match after beating Brunswick, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Comets put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 3-0 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Comets.

Steele was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-11, 25-16, 25-19.

Joe Penano and Hector Mendez were among the main playmakers for Steele as the former had 13 assists and five digs and the latter had four digs and three aces. Penano has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more assists the last four times he's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Steele was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brunswick only served five.

Meanwhile, Springfield came up short against Perrysburg on Thursday and fell 3-1.

While Springfield had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18.

Steele's record is now 2-0. As for Springfield, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Steele might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Springfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
