Basketball Recap: Newton Takes a Loss

Newton saw some tournament action on Friday. They had to suffer through a 74-45 loss at the hands of the Northwest Grizzlies. While losing is never fun, the Railroaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 35th).

Northwest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dj Brown, who went 12 for 18 on his way to 25 points. Elijah Benning was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Newton and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Northwest, they moved to 8-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Newton has already played their next contest (against Arkansas City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Northwest has already played their next game, an 85-69 victory against Maize on the 25th.
