Softball Recap: Tuscola Takes a Loss

Central A & M hit Tuscola with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 back in April.

Kinzie Cleland put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run was her first of the season.

Tuscola has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Central A & M, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season.

Tuscola will take on Crab Orchard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Central A & M, they will welcome Sangamon Valley/Tri-City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
