Softball Recap: Morgan Luddy Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Norwich Free Academy

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Amity Regional nor Norwich Free Academy made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 4-0 shutout. The Spartans' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.

The result came thanks to Gabby Celozzi's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Amity Regional saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Luddy, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Luddy has launched this season. Leah Monschein was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Amity Regional's record is now 17-3. As for Norwich Free Academy, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-4.

When Amity Regional and Norwich Free Academy next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Spartans will try to stop Masuk's five-game winning streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Amity Regional is on a six-game streak of home wins, the Panthers a nine-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. Meanwhile, Norwich Free Academy will face off against Waterford and their 15-game winning streak at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.1, the Lancers 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
