Softball Recap: Freedom Comes Up Short

Freedom dropped to 7-5 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Winneconne Wolves by a score of 5-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Irish of the 6-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Winneconne, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Freedom since May 7, 2022.

For Winneconne's part, Julia Youngbauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. Youngbauer has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Grace Mitchell was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Freedom will host Waupaca at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Winneconne, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 loss against New London on the 2nd.
