Softball Game Preview: Zuni Thunderbirds vs. Laguna Acoma Hawks

The Zuni Thunderbirds will take on the Laguna Acoma Hawks at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Zuni will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Zuni turned things around against Northwest on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Falcons. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 11 runs or more this season.

Kiayana Kallestewa was incredible, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Kiaura Kallestewa was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Kiayana wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Zuni lost a few balls and finished the game with six home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Laguna Acoma owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Navajo Prep.

Laguna Acoma's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Serenity Victorino, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Another was Brianna Filmer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles.

Laguna Acoma's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Zuni, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Zuni has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Laguna Acoma struggles in that department as they've averaged .668. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
