Baseball Recap: Eastern Comes Up Short

Eastern extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-6-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rancocas Valley Red Devils. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Devils earlier this season, when they won 13-3.

As for Rancocas Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

For Rancocas Valley's part, Mason Hill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. Hill has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Rancocas Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Sprague, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Coming up, Eastern will be playing in front of their home fans against Shawnee at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Rancocas Valley, they will venture away from home to challenge Haddonfield at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
