St. Joseph Academy came tearing into Thursday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Saint Mary's Hall Barons 42-39. Given the Bloodhounds' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 406th, while the Barons are ranked 822nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Barons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isabella (Beya) Chase, who posted 14 points. That's the most points Chase has posted since back in February of 2024. Adah Sayeed was another key player, putting up four points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

St. Joseph Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.9 points per game. As for Saint Mary's Hall, they moved to 10-11 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

St. Joseph Academy has already played their next contest, a 41-23 victory against St. Anthony on the 1st. As for Saint Mary's Hall, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-32 win against Providence Catholic on the 31st.
