Volleyball Recap: West Prairie Starts Season with Victory Against Monmouth United

West Prairie had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They won by a set and slipped past the Monmouth United Red Storm 2-1. The game was the first time the Cyclones have beaten the Red Storm on their court since October 19, 2019.

West Prairie had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Niah Zimmerman paced West Prairie's offense, picking up 11 kills. Zimmerman got some help from Madelynn Sullivan and her 23 assists. Finally, Jaycee Reynoso kept West Prairie's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

West Prairie and Monmouth United will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Cyclones will square off against rival Havana at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Monmouth United is set to challenge their familiar foe ROWVA/Williamsfield at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
