Recap: Escambia Gators vs. Booker T. Washington Tornadoes
The Escambia Gators can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. It was close, but they capped 2023 with a 59-57 win over Booker T. Washington. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Escambia got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joshua Jackson out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Tayshaun Gilcrist, who scored 15 points.
When it comes to explaining why Booker T. Washington lost, one person who can't be blamed is Leroy Lee Jr. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Nunez, who scored 13 points.
Escambia's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-9. As for Booker T. Washington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.
Escambia won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hoover at 6:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Hoover will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Booker T. Washington and Cullman will round out the year against one another at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at. Cullman presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Booker T. Washington in their respective states (Cullman is ranked 37th in Alabama, while Booker T. Washington is ranked 418th in Florida).
