Basketball Recap: Pickerington North Takes a Loss

Pickerington North fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Dublin Coffman on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (59), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Pickerington North lost, don't look at Jr Bates. Despite the final result, he shot 60% from the field on his way to 30 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Bates a new career-high in points. Kendrick Duru also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Pickerington North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 35 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Pickerington North's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points over those games. As for Dublin Coffman, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Dublin Coffman beat Pickerington North by a score of 61-60 later that day.
