Baseball Recap: Owsley County Owls / Lady Owls vs. Estill County Engineers
Owsley County had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 8-16 to make it five. They came up short against the Estill County Engineers, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Engineers this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-0 defeat back in April.
As for Estill County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.
For Estill County's part, Mason Raider and Logan Friend made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Raider pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Friend tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Raider has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Raider went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Friend went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Raider has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Estill County let Kooper Powell and Mason Griggs run wild. Powell went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Griggs went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Griggs a new career-high. Hayden Woolery was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
