Football Game Preview: Mentor Cardinals vs. Shaker Heights Red Raiders

Mentor is a perfect 8-0 against Shaker Heights since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mentor has seven straight wins, Shaker Heights has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mentor is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Strongsville 55-21 on Friday. Considering the Cardinals have won five matchups by more than 29 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackson Farley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 157 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Farley is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Another back making a difference was Braylon Callahan, who rushed for 94 yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mentor was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 394 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Shaker Heights was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 19-14 to Lorain.

Mentor's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Shaker Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Everything came up roses for Mentor against Shaker Heights in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 45-6 win. In that contest, the Cardinals amassed a halftime lead of 31-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
