Football Recap: Southwest EC Drops Highest Score of Season Against San Ysidro

Southwest EC blew San Ysidro out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday San Ysidro got their revenge. The Eagles fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 24-21. On the bright side, the 21- point effort marked the Eagles' highest-scoring game to date.

Defeat or not, Southwest EC got some senior leadership from Joshua Ibarra and Thomas Gomez. Ibarra picked up 70 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Gomez threw for 154 yards and a pair of TDs.

Southwest EC didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Joe Johnston and Leonardo Valenzuela. Johnston got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The critical scores for San Ysidro came from Bryan Landeros, Aaron Garcia, and Caleb Contreras.

Southwest EC's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for San Ysidro, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Southwest EC will venture away from home to square off against Holtville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups. As for San Ysidro, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. on October 10.
