Basketball Recap: River Valley Falls Despite Big Games from Landon Burns and Braden Bennett

River Valley fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Alexander on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Alexander Spartans 57-53. The Raiders' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it 11 in a row.

River Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Braden Bennett, who went 7 for 17 en route to 16 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals, and Landon Burns, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Bennett is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Gary Truance, who posted seven points and six boards.

River Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Alexander, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8.

River Valley has already played their next game (against South Gallia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Alexander will square off against Athens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
