Soccer Game Preview: Middleburg vs. St. Augustine

The Middleburg Broncos will head out to square off against the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Middleburg has four straight victories, St. Augustine has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Middleburg's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 5-0 margin over Trinity Christian Academy. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Conquerors are ranked 441st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, St. Augustine fell victim to Clay and their airtight defense on Thursday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. That's two games in a row now that the Yellow Jackets have lost by exactly two goals.

Middleburg is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those six contests. As for St. Augustine, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5-1.

Middleburg beat St. Augustine by a goal when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Middleburg since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
