Soccer Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton lost against Mattoon back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eagles lost 5-1 to the Greenwave. Things were pretty much settled by the half as Newton were already down 4-1.

Their goal came courtesy of Brock Anderson, who's now up to 16 this season.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 13-3-1. As for Mattoon, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5-2 record this season.

Newton will take on Lincoln in a tournament on Saturday. As for Mattoon, they will host Richland County at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
