Jacob Gourley made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adam Groeblinghoff, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Wells posted their closest victory since April 15th on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Liberty Baptist Academy, sneaking past 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Leopards.
Wells saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luis Garcia, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Indian Springs' win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wells, their win bumped their record up to 28-6.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Indian Springs has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .583. However, it's not like Wells struggles in that department as they've averaged .528. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Indian Springs skirted past Wells 5-4 in their previous matchup back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderbirds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
