Recap: Stone Tomcats vs. West Marion Trojans
The Stone Tomcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 23 points or more this season. Everything went their way against West Marion on Saturday as Stone made off with a 62-39 win. Given Stone's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while West Marion is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stone to victory, but perhaps none more so than JaKobey Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ray Dennis, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Stone's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for West Marion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Stone and East Central will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. East Central is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for West Marion, they will head out on the road to face off against Purvis at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
