This just doesn't happen to Mater Dei (Santa Ana).

The 11-time California state champions entered Friday's CIF Southern Section Open Division semifinal with a 27-3 record and 1,000-game winner in head coach Gary McKnight on the sideline.

But national No. 1 Chino Hills humbled the Monarchs in historic fashion with a 102-54 thrashing, improving to 30-0 this season and setting up an epic section final.

The Huskies stormed to a 16-0 lead and stretched it to 50-15 late in the first half. Things only got worse for Mater Dei in the second half as the entire fourth quarter was played with a running clock.

UCLA-bound brothers LiAngelo (34) and Lonzo Ball (25) combined for 59 points while junior wingman Elizjah Scott added 23.

The third Ball brother, freshman LaMelo, also chipped in 10 points. All three Balls are signed or committed to UCLA.

On the other side of the bracket, national No. 6 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) controlled its matchup with No. 16 Bishop Montgomery (Torrance) for a 78-69 win.

The Honda Center in Anaheim will host the Chino Hills-Sierra Canyon next Saturday (March 5) at 6:30 p.m.
