Softball Recap: Huntington Has No Trouble Against Chesapeake

Huntington's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Chesapeake Panthers as they made off with a 24-4 win. Considering the Huntsmen have won seven contests by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Leah McCloskey made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since April 1st.

In other batting news, Huntington got a massive performance out of Savannah Bushatz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Bushatz has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Baker, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Huntington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .763. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Huntington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Chesapeake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Huntington has already played their next contest, a 15-1 defeat against Westfall on the 25th. Chesapeake has also already played their next game (against Fairland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
