This season hasn't been kind to the Oberlin The Phoenix , who are still winless after their sixth game. They suffered a rough 73-47 defeat at the hands of Brookside on Tuesday. Oberlin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-26.
When it comes to explaining why Oberlin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Isaiah Jones-Smith. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Holt, who scored eight points.
Oberlin's defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Brookside, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Oberlin will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Clearview at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Brookside will be home for the holidays to greet Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
