Coming later this week, a full state playoff preview breaking down all the pairings in all of the classes.
Week 10 Large-School Player of the Week
Eric Bennett, Tulsa Washington – Bennett missed six games during the middle of the season due to injury after a quick start. With Bennett in the line-up, the Hornets are one of the top five teams in the state in any class.
Bennett rushed for 253 yards and two touchdowns to lead Washington to a 28-14 victory over Bixby, snapping Bixby’s seven-game winning streak.
Trailing 14-13 in the third quarter, Bennett put the Hornets into the lead for good with an 80-yard touchdown scamper. Bennett opened the contest to decide the District 5A-3 title with a 42-yard touchdown run in the second quarter before Bixby scored 13 unanswered points to claim the lead.
For Bennett, it was the second time he picked up Large-School Player of the Week honors. In a season-opening victory over preseason Class 5A No. 1 Carl Albert, Bennett and the Hornets made a huge statement with a 40-7 rout. Bennett threw for 287 yards and four touchdowns and added 124 rushing yards and an interception on defense for the Hornets.

But the junior running back signaled his return to full strength with 224 yards and four touchdowns as the No. 1 team in Class 4A capped off an unbeaten regular season with a 35-6 win over Star Spencer. Clinging to a 7-6 lead at halftime, Nelson scored on runs of 15, 48, 1, and 8 yards in the second half for the Warriors.
David Oku, Carl Albert – The University of Tennessee verbal finished the final game of his regular season career with a 201-yard effort in a 41-0 triumph over Harrah. Greg Waffle, Mannford – In almost any other situation, Waffle’s performance in a 35-14 win over Cushing would be plenty good enough for Player of the Week honors. Waffle also added two extra points to end his high school football career.
Jacques Washington, Owasso – Washington rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-20 victory over Stillwater, clinching second place in District 6A-4. Trailing 7-0 after the first quarter, Washington scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to lead the Rams to a 21-14 halftime lead.
