Softball Game Preview: Rodriguez Mustangs vs. Dixon Rams

The Rodriguez Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Dixon Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rodriguez will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Rodriguez is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Armijo 23-0 on Tuesday. Considering the Mustangs have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Angelique Boot made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alanna Williams, who scored five runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Skye Aguilar was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Rodriguez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .744. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Armijo only posted an OBP of .176.

Meanwhile, Dixon fell victim to Davis Sr. and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Blue Devils, falling 13-0. Having soared to a lofty 24 runs in the game before, the Rams' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Rodriguez's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Dixon, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Rodriguez couldn't quite get it done against Dixon in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Can Rodriguez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
