Softball Preview: Oak Grove Panthers vs. Mid-Buchanan Dragons
The Oak Grove Panthers will challenge the Mid-Buchanan Dragons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Things were looking good for Oak Grove after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 4-1 to Jefferson City. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Molly Munson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in September.
On the hitting side, Brianna Craig was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with a home run.
Meanwhile, Mid-Buchanan entered their tilt with Marceline on Saturday with 16 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 17. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won 15 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Zuzu Kountz, who went 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Smith, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Oak Grove's loss dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Mid-Buchanan, they pushed their record up to 21-1 with the victory, which was their 30th straight at home dating back to last season.
