Football Game Preview: Dayton Pirates vs. Douglas Trojans

The Dayton Pirates will square off against the Douglas Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Dayton comes in on nine and Douglas on three.

On Friday, Dayton took their contest with ease, bagging a 42-8 win over Amity. Considering the Pirates have won seven games by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The critical scores for Dayton came from Bryce Wilson, Stephen Macias, Makoy Fleeman, Ryan Mullins, Taylr Miller, and Kolby Wofford.

Dayton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nate Coburn and Mullins.

Meanwhile, Douglas got the win against Brookings-Harbor on Friday by a conclusive 35-14. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Trojans just coasted through the last quarter.

Douglas' win came from a few key players Dayton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ryder Sawyer, who threw for 255 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 72 yards. Douglas is 4-2 when Sawyer posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. The Trojans' leading receiver Reese Willis was Sawyer's top target yet again, picking up 130 receiving yards and three TDs.

Douglas now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Dayton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Dayton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 230.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Douglas struggles in that department as they've been averaging 154.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
