Haxtun is 9-1 against Caliche since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Haxtun will be playing at home against Caliche at 4:30 p.m.
Haxtun had taken Wray down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. Haxtun fell just short of Wray by a score of 8-7.
Madden Larsen was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Grant Statz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Caliche made sure to put some runs up on the board against Holyoke on Thursday. Caliche was the clear victor by a 20-10 margin over Holyoke. With that victory, the Buffaloes brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Like Haxtun, Caliche also got a great game from a two-way player: Mason Hernandez. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Hernandez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Zander Yost was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Peter Brekel, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Caliche always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holyoke only posted an OBP of .464.
Caliche's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Haxtun, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Everything went Haxtun's way against Caliche when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Haxtun made off with an 18-7 victory. Does Haxtun have another victory up their sleeve, or will Caliche turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
