Alameda is 8-2 against San Leandro since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Alameda 3.2, San Leandro 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Alameda is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering California just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hornets have suffered since March 20th.
Alameda saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia Lambert, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
San Leandro never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Piedmont on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Highlanders with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 13 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Marina Sacrey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jacella Onate was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Camryn Gilbert, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
San Leandro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Piedmont only posted an OBP of .160.
San Leandro is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Alameda, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alameda hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like San Leandro struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alameda took their victory against San Leandro when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
