Softball Game Preview: Morenci Wildcats vs. Chandler Prep Titans

The Morenci Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Chandler Prep Titans at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

On Friday, Morenci didn't have quite enough to beat Desert Christian and fell 17-16. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 13-2 in the first period.

Meanwhile, Chandler Prep entered their tilt with St. John Paul II Catholic on Friday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won nine matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Kyra Tucker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tucker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kate W was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and one triple. Kylie Drost was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Chandler Prep's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Morenci, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Morenci took their win against Chandler Prep when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
