The Stanton Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Plainview Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Stanton blew past Elkhorn Valley, posting a 66-15 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won four in a row.
Stanton found their leader in freshman Royce Hansen, who rushed for 116 yards and four scores on only six carries, and also picked up 75 receiving yards. Hunter Robinette was another key player, rushing for 73 yards and one touchdown.
Stanton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 291 rushing yards. They are 2-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Stanton's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Gatlin Davidson refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Plainview's strategy against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Pirates blew the Bears out of the water with a 63-12 final score. Considering the Pirates have won four games by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Stanton better keep an eye on Gage Walton. He was instrumental in Plainview's win, rushing for 91 yards and five TDs on only ten carries, while also picking up 63 receiving yards. Walton has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.
Plainview didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Emiliano Solorzano-Vargas and Wyatt Schroth.
Stanton's record now sits at 2-4. As for Plainview, their record is now 5-1.
Everything went Stanton's way against Plainview in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Stanton made off with a 48-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
