Softball Recap: Mortimer Jordan Victorious

While Mortimer Jordan's victory against Mountain Brook wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Spartans on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Blue Devils, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Grace Turner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had over her last seven contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other pitching news, Alyssa Hays A. looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Mortimer Jordan got a big performance out of Aubrey Liveoak, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Liveoak launched this season. Lexi Bowman was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Mortimer Jordan hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.

The victory got Mortimer Jordan back to even at 17-17. As for Mountain Brook, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-24 record this season.

Mortimer Jordan will take on Hartselle in a tournament on Friday. As for Mountain Brook, they will challenge Woodlawn at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
