Basketball Recap: Ty Read's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Churchill over Crater

Churchill suffered their closest defeat since December 23, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Crater Comets by a score of 61-58. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Comets earlier this season, when they won 69-44.

Churchill's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ty Read, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Read has become a key player for Churchill: the team is 10-5 when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 1-5 otherwise. Jace Litten was another key player, to rack up 20 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Churchill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Churchill's record now sits at 11-10. As for Crater, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Churchill will head out to square off against Thurston at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Crater, they are taking a road trip to face off against Springfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
