Football Recap: Cedar Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Cedar had won five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 7-0 to make it six. They walked away with a 49-41 victory over the Richfield Wildcats. This was payback for the Reds, who suffered a 42-25 defeat the last time these two teams met.

It was another big night for Everett Kelling, who rushed for 164 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 231 yards and one TD. Those four rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braxton Demille, who rushed for 141 yards and one score while picking up 8.3 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cedar was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 307 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 208 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

As for Richfield, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (40), they still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Richfield still got an impressive performance from Trey Yardley, who rushed for 187 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards. Yardley really tore up the turf during one magnificent 71-yard run.

Coming up, Cedar will take on Canyon View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Kelling and Ryder Miller. As for Richfield, they will square off against Juab at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wasps will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
