Football Recap: Hillsboro Starts off Right with Win over Mcgregor

Hillsboro had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the McGregor Bulldogs on Friday, sneaking past 58-56. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Braylen Benson was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 236 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Those 236 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Kaden Grim was in the mix too, providing Hillsboro with two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hillsboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 375 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McGregor only rushed for 125 rushing yards.

Defeat or not, McGregor got some senior leadership from Bubba Zacharias and Dominic Madron. Zacharias threw for 415 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.0 yards per attempt, while Madron picked up 263 receiving yards and one score. Madron showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 63 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillsboro will face off against Troy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,007 yards in their previous games. As for McGregor, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Groesbeck at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
